PROGRESS ON FUJI GROUNDS

PROGRESS THUS FAR IN 2003:
February.: Fuji City Council approves second ground at Kasenjiki at meeting run by Fuji Hotel Association. Exclusive for cricket, a concrete center wicket for nets all approved at same meeting.

March: Hotel Association cuts second ground. The ground is too rough to play cricket

April-July: Investigation into options. Eric Ofasi from YCAC recommended a relaying of the entire surface.

July: Alex miyaji leads a delegation that sees the Council agree to dig up and level the entire surface (for free) atrting in August.

July: Phil Harris used as consultant.

August: (Obon) Typhoon did not stop volunteers from cutting grass on the outer areas of the #1 ground for 5 days.

September: Council commences work.

October: Ground is leveled.

October: Grass is sown.

STILL TO DO:
-Outer boundaries extended (re-cut) and leveled (beginning/mid february)
-#1 ground to be rematted (beginning/mid February)
-New ground to be cleaned and re-sown where necessary (beginning/mid February)
-Concrete to be laid for #2 ground and nets (end February/beginning March)
-Ne concrete (and nets) to be matted (end March)
-Nets to be erected (end march)

PROPOSAL:
Working days for volunteers 7/8th February 2004 or 14/15th February 2004 (depending on weather)

20~40 volunteers required to:
-Cut both grounds
-Cut grass on the outer boundaries of #1 ground up to the bank
-Re-grass of #2 ground where the seed had not taken
-Clear #2 of all stones and debris
-Re-grass bowler's run-ups on #! ground
-Dig trench for drainage from "2 ground
Level boundaries for marquees
Measure and evaluate potential marquee sites
-Mark out area for new pitch and nets
-Cut grass to be cleared
-Both grounds and surrounding areas to be cleared of rubbish/rocks/etc.

NB.: It has been recommended that NO cricket be played on the new ground until May 2004
