Comments from Anton McCloy:
From an umpiring perspective, I hope all attendees and participants in the tournament noted the great attitude and politeness the  Bangladesh Academy brought to thetournament.  They were a joy to deal with and a dream to umpire.
Star umpire for the tournament - Neil Harrison - noted that being called 'sir' makes it easier to stand in the middle for 100 overs.
Well done Neil and all the other umps and scorers over the weekend.
Regards and good cricket to you.
Anton McCloy
p.s  Congratulations Japan
Comments from Naoki Saida:
Well done Anton!!
Using Net Run Rate for the first time in Japan.  We shall attend this to every 1 day tournament in Japan.
We Japan still have lots of things to learn!!  Thanks all the Umps('Sirs') and Scorers to make the tournament
enjoyable and I also hope taht the teams really enjoyed the weekend!!
Especially, having great games everyday with great Umps and scorers,  every player completely forgot their 'age' and  just drove themselves out into the field and threw themselves out for a ball, for a run,and for the game!!
And thanks Robb for making such a great tournament!!

Comments from Syed Kamran Ali
Thanks to those who have made this tournament successful All credit should go to organizers who have invited ayoung and a talented Bangladeshi Team and the Umpires, especially Neil Harrison Robb McKenna and Anton McCloy for the three days of Umpiring, a  really tough job well done.
All three days of Cricket were very fantastic and no one could have guessed we were  playing in Japan. On a lush green field with the presence of neutral Umpires and Scorers and all those who were voluntarily taking drinks to the players during the break werevery apriciated. All these efforts encouraged the four teams to shows their enthusiasm and cricket skills which resulted in  all the tournament games ending in a close finish.
My personal cheers for the Tournament!

JCA Media Release:
Subject: Japan Friendship Cup Announcement

The Japan Cricket Association is pleased to announce the establishment of the Japan Friendship Cup (JFC), to commemorate the upcoming cricket tour to Japan of teams from the Bangladesh Cricket Association.

The Bangladesh team will play a 3-day round robin tournament on August 20, 21 and 22 against the Japan National Team and a Kanto Cricket League (KCL) All Star team, made up of mostly foreign players from the premier cricket league in Japan, and a JCA Board 11 which will be a selection of other eligible players with an international mix.  The tournament will be played at the Fuji City Rokuji Grounds, at the foot of the famous Mt. Fuji.

The 3 Japanese squads for the Japan Friendship Cup are due to be announced by the Japan Cricket Association on Sunday August 8th.

The tournament will also be played in conjunction with a JCA Women’s Competition, also in Fuji on the same weekend, with a joint function to celebrate both events being planned for the evening of Saturday, 21st of August.

The Bangladesh Side will be comprised of developing younger players involved in the Discovery Cricket Academy in Dhaka, the Bangladesh Capital.  Bangladesh is a current Test playing nation, and will send many strong players looking to achieve test level in the future.  This provides the opportunity for the Japanese teams to possibly play against future test players.

The Japan Cricket Association is hoping to attract many cricket supporters to travel to come and support the Japanese teams as they battle against a very strong team from a far more developed cricket nation.

The Japan Friendship Cup has been named to encourage a friendly relationship between the cricketers of Bangladesh and Japan, as well as the many other foreign nationals involved in cricket in Japan.

Please contact Robb McKenna of the JCA Development Department at robbmckenna@hotmail.com for further details on the tournament.

Cricket Tent City Coming to Japan Friendship Cup

Players/ spectators encouraged to help build colourful tent city at the Japan Friendship Cup:
Date: August 02, 2004
Subject: Japan Friendship Cup Tent City

The Japan Cricket Association has announced plans to build a Cricket Tent City at the Fuji Grounds during the upcoming Japan Friendship Cup Cricket tournament planned for Fuji City from August 20-22, 2004.

The Japan Cricket Association is asking all players and spectators to bring a tent, tarpaulin or any other shade-creating device in order to beat the summer heat during the tournament.  It is hoped that the Tent City will create a fantastic nomadic atmosphere for the 3 days of the games, and a photographic opportunity to rival any should Mt. Fuji also show up during the tournament.

“We have never built a tent city for cricket in Japan, but we have the opportunity now to build one in Fuji with the abundant space available at the sides of the grounds,” said Mark McTamney, the Japan National team coach and Head groundsman at the Fuji Grounds.
“It should look fantastic!”

The Japan Cricket Association recently announced the establishment of the Japan Friendship Cup (JFC), to commemorate the upcoming cricket tour to Japan of teams from the Bangladesh Cricket Association.

The Japan Friendship Cup has been named to encourage a friendly relationship between the cricketers of Japan and Bangladesh, as well as the many other foreign nationals involved in cricket in Japan.

The Bangladesh team will play a 3-day round robin tournament on August 20, 21 and 22 against the Japan National Team, a Kanto Cricket League (KCL) All Star team, made up of mostly foreign players from the premier cricket league in Japan, and a JCA Board 11, a selection of young up and coming cricketers and some more senior veterans.  The tournament will be played at the Fuji City Rokuji Grounds, at the foot of the famous Mt. Fuji.

To celebrate the cultures of the visiting sides, the JCA will also be throwing a Curry Party for players and spectators on Saturday evening, 21st of August in combination with a National Women’s Cricket tournament being played on other local grounds in Fuji.  The organizers are expecting 200-300 people at the curry party, which will be held at dusk following the completion of games for the day.
